I always love coming to speak at TAMU and I appreciate your interest in in Contemporary Maternity Care. Even if it was chosen just for a needed credit, you picked this course when there are so many to choose from and that is awesome.

I have provided some extra resources in case you want more. Maybe you are a birth nerd like me or maybe you have a uterus and this stuff really hits home as you think about your own choices as you move through your reproductive life.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out!

Happy Birthing!

The first video below will make you cry in all the best ways. It is not particularly graphic but there is a small amount of human fluids shown in some of the pictures. The second video shows a doula (me in this case) doing hip squeezes. Hip squeezes are the #1, fan favorite comfort measure move during labor.

The Business of Being a Doula

Doula work is a growing field and currently the demand exceeds the supply. A doula’s best assets to excel are people and communication skills. Being passionate about improving birth and postpartum is a big plus as well.

The salary range varies widely as each doula decides their workload. A doula in an urban area can expect to make $1500 to $2000 per birth client, so at 3-4 birth clients a month that is $60,000 to $80,000 yearly. Most doulas also teach birth classes and do some postpartum work which increases their income.

If you are interested in becoming a doula, I’d love to have you reach out to BEST Doula Training and we can talk you through your options. You can also join Love What You Doula on Facebook to connect with tens of thousands of doulas in the US and around the world.
